Questions
How Should I Prepare for My Appointment?
You can prepare for your appointment by drinking plenty of water and avoiding a heavy meal right before your session. Wear whatever clothing is comfortable for you, there will be space to store your personal items in the room during your massage. Arrive 5-10 minutes early to allow time for intake, using the restroom, and transitioning onto the table before your session begins.
What Types of Payment Do You Accept? Do You Take Insurance?
Moonshadow Massage is pay-per-service (cash pay) and does not currently accept any insurance policies. Sliding scale prices are available for all sessions and can be selected at the time of booking.
Payments are accepted via cash or Venmo.
What Should I Expect From My First Appointment?
After booking your first appointment, you will receive a confirmation via text and a welcome email containing general information on logistics. A confirmation text will be sent out the day before your session. When you arrive, you'll fill out your intake paperwork and have a brief face-to-face discussion with Remedy going over the goals of the session before you'll get on the table. After intake is complete, Remedy will step out of the room for you to undress to your comfort level and lie down on the table.
When the massage is over, Remedy will leave the room for you to transition off the table and dress. Time is built into your appointment for this to be a relaxing transition back into the world, no need to rush off the table. Once your dressed, you'll make your payment via the Venmo code or cash box near the door. When you're dressed and finished with your payment, Remedy will step back into the room to go over after care guidance, any recommended stretches, and check in on how you're feeling post-massage.
Will The Massage Hurt? Will I Be Sore Afterwards?
Generally, no, but there is some nuance here. Whether or not a massage "hurts" is dependent on the type of massage received. Relaxation and stress relief massage are typically not painful and may not include treatment modalities such as trigger point release, scarping, and deep compression. That being said, many people do find these treatments to be relaxing and describe them to have a "hurts so good" quality.
Targeted treatment work is often tender and can contain and intense quality, but never painful to the point of needing to protect against the work by tensing up, holding breath, bracing, or grinning-and-bearing. Work that needs to be coped with in these ways has the potential to do more harm than good. Our goal is creating spaciousness and softening, and verbal and non-verbal communication will be used to ensure your massage is the right massage for you.
Soreness, mild bruising, and flu-like symptoms can occur post-treatment work (and occasionally with relaxation massage). During your intake, we will discuss your goals and check in about if treatment work is a part of your vision and go over after-care and what to expect in the days following your massage.
Do I Need to Be Completely Undressed? Will I Be Exposed?
You can be undressed to your comfort level! The use of draping the massage sheets will ensure only the areas being actively worked on are exposed at any time, and even this is flexible. Massage therapy can be applied over the draping and clothing, and your comfort is the highest priority.
Will We Talk During The Massage?
Whether or not we talk is completely up to you! Conversations are client led, and there is an option when booking to select a Silent Session and set the intention to keep talking to the essentials.
Do I Need to Tip?
Tips for your massage are graciously accepted, but never expected.
